Inaguration of "India Study Centre" at Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany
On the 3rd December Hochschule Bremen opened its “India Study Centre”. The venue of the opening wasn’t at the university but at the ‘Europe Meeting Point’ in the Parliament Building of the state of Bremen, the smallest state in Germany. The choice of the venue was to symbolize the close connection of India and the European . Among the guests were professors from India, one representative of IIT Madras Chennai, and Prof. Arvind Kumar from Manipal University.


Ms Prof Luckey, VC of Bremen, welcomed the guests. Mr Patnaik, Consul at the Indian Consulate General Hamburg, highlighted the importance of Indo European collaboration in higher education. Mr Podewils gave a detailed overview on the IESCP and the development of its centres, and handed over a document related to the opening ceremony. Prof Jansen, the ‘father’ of the connections of Bremen Hochschule with India, described the history and the expected future of the centre in Bremen.
The function ended with a Kathak dance by Ms Kepti Apte, a Bremen citizen of Indian origin.
Seminar "Revisiting Research Methods in Social Sciences"
CISCA (Aarhus University, Denmark) organised a seminar jointly with Sambalpur University titled" Revisiting Research Methods in Social Sciences" from 25th to 27th of November 2010.

Inaugurating the FICCI Higher Education Summit 2010, Mr. Kapil Sibal , Honorable Minsiter for Educations, aid that in the higher education sector the private sector wanted total autonomy with no accountability while the Government did not wish to grant full autonomy but expected total accountability from the private players. This was not the way forward, he said, adding that autonomy and accountability must go hand in hand with strong partnerships between the private sector and the Government and between universities at the regional and global levels.International Conference “Unveiling New Chapters of Contemporary India‐EU Studies”
India-EU Study Centres Programme held an International Conference on “Unveiling New Chapters of Contemporary India‐EU Studies” in colloboration with Mangalore and Manipal University on 20th ‐22nd October, 2010 for both New and selected Existing Study Centres.
The Programme was held in two parts: International Seminar on " The European in Changing International Order: Issues and Concerns" at Mangalore University on the 20th and 21st October 2010. This was followed by the International Conference on "Unveiling New Chapters on Contemporary India-EU Studies" on the 21st evening and the 22nd October 2010 at the Manipal University. Scholars from both India and Europe participated in the programs and enlightened the gathering of students and other academic professionals throughout.












The objectives of the conference were to provide academicians, business leaders, students and researchers, a platform to present and discuss various aspects of Internationalization of Higher Education.

The European Association of South Asian Studies (EASAS) in collaboration with the University of BONN, Germany organised their 21st Conference titled "European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies 2010" (ECMSAS) between 26th and 29th July 2010 at the University of Bonn, Germany.
More than 420 scholars, seniors as well as PhD students, participated coming from all over Europe, from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh . They presented 400 papers at 44 panel sessions. The Team Leader, Mr Podewils had the chance to introduce IESCP during the opening ceremony. Ms Julia Schwarzenberger, DAAD joined Mr. Podewils and a lot of networking was done creating not only better visibility for the programme but also creating new partners in the process.




Prof. Sukhadeo Thorat, Chairman University Grants Commission, India delivered the Ambedkar Lecture: “Identity, Social Exclusion and Deprived Groups - Search for Inclusive Society in Contemporary International Context”. International Workshop at IIT Madras
Centre for Comparative European Studies under Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Indian Institute of Technology Madras held an International Workshop titled "Democracy, Global Politics and International Relations" with the topic "Reinterpreting State" between June 28 to July 3, 2010 at the IIT Campus.

European Workshop for Study Centres
India-EU Study Centres programme held an European Workshop for Contemporary India Study Centres in europe and EU Study centres in India from the 17th to 21st June 2010. The workshop was hosted by Aarhus University in Denmark and Freie University Berlin.

CII-AIU : Global Summit on Higher Education
Global Summit on Higher Education, was organised by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on the 16th and 17th of February 2010 at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. More than 40 Vice Chancellors, Directors, Policy makers and stakeholders from various Universities / Institutions from different parts of the country took part in the Summit. Industry was represented by Microsoft, IBM, Intel, CISCO, PwC, E&Y, Mindlogicx, NIIT and many others. Foreign Universities e.g., Cardiff University, UK, Melbourne University, Queensland University of Technology, University of New South Wales had also participated in the Summit.
Mr. Kapila Sibal, Honorable Minister for Education, Government of India had delivered his special Key Note speech on the 16th February 2010.
Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader of the India-EU Study Centres programme has participated as one of the panelist in the session titled " India- the knowledge destination: the way forward and shared his views on the subject.
Inauguration of "Contemporary India Study Centre" at Aarhus University, Denmark
Aarhus University, Denmark (Department of History and Area Studies) inaugurated the "Contemporary India Study Centre Aarhus (CISCA)" on the 12th February 2010 at the University Campus. The Inauguration Ceremony was attended by Mr.Martin Alstrom, Head of Information, Delegation of the European to Denmark; HE Yogesh Kumar Gupta, Ambassador of India in Denmark and Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader, IESCP besides the Academia for the University.


The opening of the CISCA was combined with the first Indo-European Annual Lecture presented by the Indian Ambassador to Denmark. The University Director described the changes of Aarhus University and the role which CISCA is expected to play as part of the reorganisation. The Indian community of Aarhus and representatives of the corporate sector were invited and present.
The University Director Jœrgen Jœrgensen explained the university's vision to become one of the leading world players among the research universities.
Inauguration of the European Studies Programme at Delhi University
Delhi University inaugurated the "European Studies Programme" on the 28th January 2010. The Inauguration was held between 1000 and 1100 hrs on the 28th January 2010 at the 'Old Viceregal Lodge' at the University Campus. The Inauguration ceremony was chaired by Professor. Rajni Palriwala, Coordinator for the European Studies Programme and attended by Prof. S.K. Tandon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Retd.) Andre Beteille, Prof. (Retd.) J.P.S. Uberoi, and number of luminaries from Indian and European Universities. There were about 100 participants who had gathered to witness the inauguration.



Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation in India: Ms. Daniele Smadja, Mr. Hans Schoof, Head of Operations, Mr. Fernando Nino Page, Head of Economics section, Ms. Francesca Pessina, Programme Manager (IESCP) and Ms. Sarojini Kaul, Project Manager from the EU Delegation in India attended the Inauguration.
Inauguration of the Contemporary India Study Center at Warsaw University, Poland
University of Warsaw inaugurated its Contemporary India Study Center at the University Campus on the 28 January 2010. The inauguration was under the patronage of the polish Ministries for Economy, Education and Foreign Affairs. On the Dias were Prof Lengauer, Deputy Rector; Prof Jerzy Szwed, Secretary Ministry of Education; Dr Pawel Wojciechowski, Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms Marie-Therese Duffy-Haeusler, Director EC Information Office Warsaw; Mr Rajesh Vaishnaw, Charge D'Affairs, Indian Embassy and Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader, India-EU Study Centres Programme.




Prof Edward Halizak, Director of the Institute International Relations gave an introduction. This was continued by words of the guests sitting on the dias, and a presentation by Dr Jakub Zajaczkowski. At the end members of the consortium delivered short messages as well, Prof Sarangi for University of Hyderabad, Dr Ben Slay for the United Nations Development Programme, and Prof Luciano Segreto, University of Florence.

ERASMUS MUNDUS INFO DAY
The Erasmus Mundus Info Day on 22 January provided more information on the Call. It explained the application process and documents, and give tips and advice on how to prepare a strong proposal under all three of the Actions. The Info Day took place in Brussels, and was broadcast live via web streaming. Participants at the event, and people following the sessions on line were able to post questions. A partner search mechanism was also made available.

Inauguration of the Contemporary India Study Centre at Warsaw University, Poland
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland, in collaboration with the Institute of International Relations of the University of Warsaw, United Nations Development Programme and India-EU Study Centres Programme, held an inauguration ceremony of the Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies.
