CALL FOR PAPERS: Jindal Journal of International Affairs – Volume 2, Issue 1, April 2012

The Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) and the Centre for European Studies (CES) are now accepting submissions for the Jindal Journal of International Affairs, April 2012 issue. Manuscripts from European Studies, Politics of EU and related fields, European Anthropology, European Critical Security Studies, European Cosmopolitan Ethics, European Identity, European Enlargement, European Minority Rights and Identity, European Convention on Human Rights [ECHR] are particularly welcome. Authors should ensure that their submissions are original contributions, between 5000 to 8000 words and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. Book reviews or Review Essays of about 1000-1200 words on the above and related topics are welcome.

Jindal Journal of International Affairs (JJIA) aims to provide a platform for academicians and practitioners to interact and exchange their ideas in a structured and peer reviewed manner. The journal is intended towards social scientists, researchers, educators, practitioners and graduate students. JJIA accepts both Harvard and Chicago referencing styles.

Prof. Ummu Salma Bava Conferred with German “Order of Merit” (Bundesverdienstkreuz)

Prof. Ummu Salma Bava, Director Europe Area Studies Programme and Professor for European Studies in the Centre for European Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Associate Fellow of Asia Society, New York has been conferred the prestigious award - Order of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz) of the Federal Republic of Germany by the President Dr. Christian Wulff.

The Order of Merit is the highest honorary tribute the Federal Republic of Germany can bestow on individuals for services to the nation in the political, socio-economic and intellectual sphere.

Prof. Bava has been conferred with the award in "recognition of her outstanding achievement regarding Indo-German relations over the past decades. Her tireless work has considerably enhanced Germany's standing in India". The Award ceremony will be held in early 2012.

European Commision launches new call for FP7 programme
The European Commission has launched a 7 billion euro research and development fund aimed at tackling the biggest societal challenges facing Europe and the world on 20 July 2011. Universities, research organizations and industry from all over the world will be able to compete for these funds, with special attention given to small and medium-sized enterprises. The funds will be released under the EU's 7th Framework Program for Research. The best researchers and innovators will get together to tackle the biggest issues of our time, such as energy, food security, climate change and the ageing population. Research will be funded in all areas, including health, the bio economy, Information and Communication Technology, Materials, Energy, Environment, Transport, Social Sciences and Humanities, Space and Security. There will also be substantial funding available for training programmes through individual fellowships and research grants to top scientists. International cooperation is highly encouraged as the programme is completely open to participation by researcher all over the world.
